You might also notice the cool new drag-and-drop functions in the Datebook application. You can drag and reposition any events in your day to another start and end time, as well as easily add any necessary information from your Address Book and To Do List applications. You'll also find that you can adjust the width of the text area in the Memo Pad application to make it easier to see what you are typing.

You'll also feel more secure knowing that those secret records that you have hidden on your organizer are just as hush-hush in Palm Desktop 3.0. If you've set a security password on your organizer to hide your records, the Palm Desktop software will ask for the same password in order to reveal your secret data. This is a great improvement on previous versions, which allowed access to all records, regardless if they were classified secret on your organizer or not.

But that's not all! (Gee, that sounds like a cheesy infomercialÉ) You also get to take advantage of the new File Link feature, which lets you automatically update your Address Book and Memo Pad applications with data from an external file whenever you perform a HotSync operation. How is this useful? Well, if your company has a large directory with everyone's phone number, you can set a File Link to a file with the directory information. This can sit on a shared drive somewhere on the company network that everyone has access to. If someone is hired and added to the directory (or fired and deleted from the directory) or if someone has changed numbers, the File Link will automatically detect those changes during a HotSync operation with your device and update your own Address Book. It definitely beats getting all of the folks in your company to import a file into their Desktop data every couple of weeks, and it definitely beats making everyone enter changes manually!

Now here's an update to my article on updates last month: there are now two new Palm OS updates for you to find up on our downloads page. The Palm OS 2.0.5 and Palm OS 3.0.1 updates are new additions to the site since the time of my last writing. Remember, the Palm OS 2.0.5 is an update to Palm OS 2.0 devices, or PalmPilot Professional and Personal organizers (or Pilot 1000 and 5000 organizers equipped with a 1 MB Professional Upgrade). The Palm OS 3.0.1 update is only for the Palm III organizer, or other 3Com organizers with a new Palm 2 MB Upgrade.

They both make improvements on PPP connections made with your device along with a PalmPilot Modem or other modems. Its not a major system update for everyone, but if you ever make dial-up connections through your device, they are a good thing to install right away.
