Exit Interview: Jeff Hawkins, inventor of the PalmPilot (continued)

DG: Just try not to call the new company something like Again or Next orÉ

JH: We were joking about that. I think Steve Jobs is the first guy who came up with the company. He came up with Next. And then you had On and Go. And there were a whole bunch of company names like that. But naming a company is very difficult. There aren't that many names available. It's tricky. I spent a lot of time coming up with Palm Computing. In hindsight it seems pretty obvious. But it wasn't. It wasn't Palm Software it was Palm Computing. We don't have a name for it but we'll be working on it.

DG: I said one last question, but I though of one more. You had talked in the first interview about kids using the PalmPilot. Do you think that there's going to be some use of this platform for children in the next year or two?

JH: Absolutely. I don't know if a year or two, but two years is pretty long. I've always been interested in that demographic, in seeing how kids use the product. I think if the prices come down and the functionality migrates a bit, there's an opportunity there for attractingÉ.well if you want to say kids or perhaps non-business users. So, that's it.

DG: Keep in touch have fun. Sit in a hot tub.

JH: Hopefully I will. Donna's taking 3 days off at a spa.

DG: Good for her.
