Golfing and your Palm organizer (continued)

The Players tab displays a database of friends/golfers and their USGA Index, Handicap or Average Score. From this tab a player's name can be selected and their Sync state can be turned on/off. When the players Sync state is turned on, a blue icon (i.e. handheld and desktop icon) is displayed to the far left of the player's name. The next time you sychronize your PC with your handheld, these players will be downloaded onto your Palm device.

The IntelliGolf desktop software is complete, easy to use and provided me with immediate access to key information about Players, Courses, Rounds and most importantly -- Statistics on my golf game!

InternetGolf course uploads/downloads
The third major component that IntelliGolf claimed was the ability to upload and download golf courses to/from the Internet. To use these features, you'll need an Internet connection, a web browser, and access to the IntelliGolf Home Page (at http://www.intelligolf.com).

Once on the IntelliGolf web site I clicked on the Golf Courses button. The Golf Courses page contained links describing how to upload and download my favorite courses from IntelliGolf's Internet server. Uploading a course was easy. From the IntelliGolf Desktop, I simply right clicked on the desired course and then used the Windows' Copy and Paste functions to insert the course into the space provided. I was then asked to type in the course's location and (optionally) enter my name. Once complete, all I had to do was to click on the Press This Button tab and my course was uploaded. Within a couple days my favorite course was on the IntelliGolf Internet server for all golfers to share.

Downloading a course was also easy. Again, from the Golf Courses button I located the desire course. Thousands of courses are arranged alphabetically by State and/or Country. Simple instructions walked me through the quick procedure. Basically, IntelliGolf used my Internet browser to automatically capture and download course specifics into IntelliGolf's PC database. Once downloaded, I only needed to go to the Courses tab, in the IntelliGolf Desktop, and toggle the Sync state to on. The next time I did a HotSync the course appeared on my Palm III. Again, IntelliGolf worked flawlessly.

[When we visited the IntelliGolf site to verify this feature, we were thrilled to find the answer to one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th Century. Apparently, Elvis is alive and well, and uploading Golf courses, as shown in Figure I. -- DG]

FIGURE I

Elvis is alive and well (and using IntelliGolf). Roll over picture for a larger image.

More golf software
IntelliGolf is not alone in the golf software market. Upon visiting the PilotZone web site (at http://www.pilotzone.com/games_score.html), I found three other golf products listed. These included the PilotCaddy, GolfTrac and ScoreCard Pro products. PilotZone has done their own testing on these products, as well as IntelliGolf. PilotZone uses a rating system based on cumulative biplane (i.e two-winged airplanes) icons. Five biplanes are considered excellent and one biplane is considered poor. You might want to take a quick look on the PilotZone site for their views on golf software. Hint: IntelliGolf was the only golf software rated as five biplane application.

Sent Items Organizer
When you need to file your sent email into their proper folders based on keywords or who it's to. It's also perfect for shared mailboxes.

It also adds a "Send And File" toolbar button while you're composing (similar to the way Lotus Notes used to work) for quick and easy filing.
