Fredlet's (dream) summer vacation (continued)
I have an 8M card in my Palm III from TRG (at http://www.trg.net) and that allows me more room to have the absolute essentials as well as the things that make life just that much easier. I've also found that email, especially the volume of email that I get daily, takes up quite a bit of space on my Palm device. PocketFlash, shown in Figure E, allows me to get my AOL mail then it drops the messages into the built-in Mail application on the Palm device.
FIGURE E
Get your AOL mail using PocketFlash.
MultiMail, which we review elsewhere in this issue (at http://www.actualsoft.com) and One Touch Communicator (shown in Figure F and located at http://www.jpsystems.com) both allow me access to my POP mail (NNTP and IMAP4 mail as well) without having to HotSync to my desktop. Very handy when I don't have a desktop around. I tried dragging my desktop to the beach, but the cord didn't stretch that far.
FIGURE F
Here's MultiMail. See the review elsewhere in this issue of PalmPower Magazine.
Managing your travel OK hardware is packed. Now for the software. The built-in To Do list with the category "Packing" contains my list of clothing and other sundry items to bring along with me on my trip. Swimsuit, beach towel, shorts, sunscreen, aardvark pajamas, yadda yadda yadda…I just tic them off as I fling them into the bag.
Getting to Fredletonia is pretty easy on Fredlet Airways. But I always like to keep track of my Frequent Fredlet Flyer miles with AirMiles (you can find it at http://www.handshigh.com). One of the things that makes AirMiles, shown in Figure G, pretty special is that it can keep track of other airlines miles, too.
FIGURE G
Keep track of your miles using AirMiles. And fly the friendly skies of Fredlet Airways.
TravelTracker (found at http://www.silverware.com) lets me pay attention to my trip. I don't have to worry about the other things--like which rental car agency I called originally, which hotel I'll be staying at (though that's not too tough, there's only one hotel on my island) or when I have reservations at any of Fredletonia's fine restaurants. All of these are kept in the TravelTracker database, shown in Figure H, and it even resets the Palm device's internal clock to match the new time zone I'm currently in.
FIGURE H
TravelTracker can make it seem like you've got your own, personal travel agent in a can.
Of course, I loaded my Palm computer with lots of books and reading material. While I lay on the beach, I like to read in TealDoc (at http://www.tealpoint.com ). You can download writings by Oscar Wilde, Jane Austen, etc. from http://www.memoware.com. To be perfectly honest, I will probably start to read the books and end up doing something that will take less brainpower (as my brain slowly turns to tapioca pudding in the warm sun and the cozy sand.)
What's a vacation without games? Ahhh. Nothing like a good game of Tetris. There are many Tetris-like games available, like that shown in Figure I. Go see for yourselfby visiting any of the popular download sites. What's my high score? None of your beeswax.
