Freedom of expression
Thanks for voicing the feelings we both seem to share. I, too, am still processing. Every day gets a little better. I find myself forced to confront the personal issues I had put on the back burner; issues of values and priorities. I live in the mid-Atlantic area, right between NYC and Washington, DC in a suburb where some of my neighbors make the daily commute to New York and where my husband sees clients in both cities on a regular basis. Our good fortune is that he wasn't in either place on that day. Our kids both went to prestigious East Coast schools, the kind that channel their graduates into great jobs in both cities.

Although we are again fortunate not to have lost someone close, the realization that we could have been the parents of any of those young adults who were killed is numbing.

So, here's to you and your words--and our wonderful American freedom to express ourselves honestly, even if it ruffles some feathers.

Adding up the loss
I just read your editorial in the mobile edition of PalmPower Magazine, and I had to comment.

All positive, so please keep reading!

A bit more time has passed since the tragedy, and I have to say that your piece impacted me even after all these weeks and having been a bit desensitized by time and information overload. One mental picture in particular struck me; it was the picture of those cars still parked in the lot at the train station...

I can't help trying to do the math regarding the number of people that will never exist for each of those cars. How many tens of thousands will never breathe for the loss of the thousands last month?

Your statement regarding the fact that these animals (my term) in fact committed a crime against humanity brings the whole thing into focus that these acts were against the US in particular, but the world in general.

Keep up the good work. I am sure your sensible thinking and common man approach will do you well. It has made me a fan.
