The habits of highly effective PalmPower readers (continued)

You can find it at http://www.sgsw.com/BlueMoon/bluemoon.html.

I am not affiliated with Stormgate Software (the authors). I'm just a satisfied user.

Here is an excerpt from the BlueMoon Web site:

BlueMoon lets you keep track of when something occurred last and when it's due again.

Unlike a repeating event on a calendar, BlueMoon events "float." They are relative to when they last occurred. This makes them great for keeping track of things that happen at some specified interval but that usually don't happen on an exact day. You may want to remember to call a distant relative every couple of months, but you don't call on an exact date, for instance.

Sometimes things occur and we want to keep a log of each and every occurrence, or at least a count of how many times something has happened. Examples of these types of things include tracking medical symptoms (for allergies perhaps) or having information showing when you did some required activities (instrument calibrations and checks, etc.).

Fitness software
The following letter was actually written in response to an old article of mine called, "Keep in shape with Vivonic's Fitness Planner," in the September 2000 issue of PalmPower at http://www.palmpower.com/issues/issue200009/vivonic001.html, but since it involves exercise and that's often a daily habit, I decided to include it here.

I am considering some fitness software and was reading your review of Vivonic's Fitness Planner (at http://www.vivonic.com). I would like to ask you a few questions.

Your article was published in September of 2000. Are you still using it? Do you still like it? Has it improved in the last two years? Would you still recommend it?

There seem to be a couple competitors that look good, too. Have you looked at BalanceLog (at http://www.healthetech.com/corp/consumer/balancelog.jsp) or Diet & Exercise Assistant (at http://www.keyoe.com/DEA_Handheld.htm)?

Heather responds
To be totally honest, I am not using Vivonic's Fitness Planner any longer. It was great to use in order to begin to get myself in shape and eating better. Almost two years later, I'm still eating healthy and am in shape. I don't need to rely on tools such as Vivonic to keep track of what I'm doing and how I'm doing it. It's basically become second nature.

I would still recommend using Vivonic's Fitness Planner to get you started. It was very user-friendly. I don't know how much the software changed since I wrote the article.

I'm not too familiar with the other programs you mentioned. However, Heather Wardell reviewed BalanceLog in her article, "Lose those winter pounds with BalanceLog," in the May 2002 issue of PalmPower at http://www.palmpower.com/issues/issue200205/balancelog001.html.

Another option is to download demo versions of the programs, try each of them out for a few days, and decide which program best fits your needs.

I hope this helps. Let me know how you do! If you have any more questions, please let me know.

Much aloha,
Heather
